Air Mauritius - The pride of a Nation.

My dearest and adorable friends

14 June 2017, MK celebrated its 50th anniversary.

A 50th anniversary that has not been attained without any turbulences ,but these experiences have turned our national carrier as a strong matured player in the airline world.
All started on the 14th June 1967 ,on a Wednesday when the first straw of the Paille en queue nest was laid by Air France, the BOAC enterprise, the Government of Mauritius and Rogers.

This was the birth of a company with great aspirations and visions.
The baby airline started its first crawl in August 1972 with the lease of a six-seater Piper PA-31 Navajo aircraft connecting Mauritius to Rodrigues.

Slowly the baby turned into a kid and the first jump in long-haul services came with the Boeing 707-400 on 1 November 1977.

In the 80s, routes to Durban and Johannesburg were inaugurated using Boeing 707-320B aircraft.

By March 1990, the route network included Antananarivo, Bombay, Durban, Geneva, Harare, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Kuala Lumpur, London, Moroni, Munich, Nairobi, Paris, Reunion, Rodrigues, Rome, Singapore and Zurich

The Paille en queue was no longer a caged bird, it was becoming an international performer and in May 1994 MK became the first in the Southern Hemisphere to fly the A340-300 (Paille en Queue).

Inevitably the hard work was being valued and recognised at international level and our national airline won the 18th World Travel Awards (WTA) in the category Indian Ocean’s Leading Airline in 2011.

Three years later, the 4-Star Status placed the Mauritian iron bird in another league – among the World’s best 40 Airlines. ….BRAVOOOO

With new planes joining the fleet soon, MK has now positioned itself as the CR7 in the airline industry.

The current success would have been impossible without the sacrifice, determination and dedication of its human capital.

Hats off to these people who sacrifice/d themselves and the time spent with their families to work around the clock not only to serve Air Mauritius but also the country.

Thank you very much.

Wishing you all a great 50th anniversary…….Kam City
