Dearest friends
In all competitive events, there is one major match, clash
or a face-a face that triggers more interest than the usual one.
The one that is more pickled…Like The Blue Jays versus the
Baltimore Orioles or the Ottawa Senators versus the Toronto Maple Leaves.
And this weekend, we will be blessed by two of these great
games…. Soccer Games :)
While the media will be focused on the revenue generating
Manchester City derby…The Guardiola’s Versus The Mourinho’s.
However, the real spicy one will be further north in
Scotland…...The Old Firm Derby in the city of Glasgow between the two local
rivals Rangers and Celtic
A rivalry based on the divide in Glasgow at the time of the
clubs’ formation, more nuanced than simply a religious conflict between
Protestant Rangers and Catholic Celtic but also between those from a
predominantly Ulster heritage and those with roots in Leinster, Munster and
Connacht.
Though much of the sectarian discrimination prevalent in the
city for generations has been tackled, the hostility between supporters of the
two clubs remains intense, giving Old Firm matches a piercing pitch unrivalled
in Europe.
“You could take all the derby matches in the world and put
them together and they still wouldn't equal one-millionth of the Old Firm,”
said Paolo Di Canio. “There's nothing like it."
Have a great Weekend.
