My dearest
and adorable friends
Today we will
talk about one of the greatest celebration in Mauritius….We are talking about
Maha Shivratri
Maha
Shivaratri or as I love to call it La Grande Nuit de Shiva, will be
celebrated on Monday night J
Devotees all
around the country and even from abroad visit the sacred lake of Ganga Talao on
this festival to offer their prayers and bring back Jal(water) along with them.
Preparations starts
a month before as pilgrims build beautifully decorated “Kanwars” or “Trishul”
which they will carry on their way to and back from Ganga Talao.
The pilgrims
chant holy hymns along their way in devotion for Lord Shiva…You will surely
hear the beautiful chants of Har Har Mahadev or Bam Bam Bhole till Monday night
all around the island.
Volunteers offer food, fruits and juice to the pilgrims on their way and even set up stalls for them to rest when they feel exhausted.
The beauty of
every festival in Mauritius, be it Eid, Chinese New Year, Christmas or any
other festival is the ability to celebrate in togetherness, unity and harmony.
I believe the
respect of each other is deeply rooted
in each of everyone. May the Lord of Lords bless the world with Peace, Love and
harmony…Glory to Lord Shiva
