The Pearl of Lao Tzu

Good Morning friends

Linked to multiple legends, the Pearl of Lao Tzu is the largest known pearl in the world, measuring 9.45 inches (24 centimeters) in diameter and weighing 14.1 pounds.

Reportedly extracted from a giant clam off the coast of the Philippines in 1934, the pearl has been labeled "The Pearl of Allah" by some who believe it resembles the face of Muhammad and has also been connected to a legend involving the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu.

While biologists would regard this object as a kind of pearl, gemologists regard it as a non-nacreous pearl, lacking the iridescence of the pearls that come from saltwater pearl oysters and freshwater pearl mussels.

The pearl is not on display to the public and is currently held as part of the probate inventory of Victor M. Barbish.

Gemologist Michael Steenrod in Colorado Springs has appraised the pearl at $93,000,000 (2007).

Have a great day guys.

Kam
