Father of the Yellow School Bus

Dearest friends

Everyday we come across this special type of yellowish bus while coming to work.

And this type of bus has been around in North America since the 1930’s.

The concept comes from American educator Frank W. Cyr, Ph.D. (July 7, 1900 – August 1, 1995) known especially for his contribution to school busing.

In April 1939, a group of well known engineers, paint experts and transportation administrators met for 7 days and agreed on 44 standards, including the color and some mechanical specs such as body length, ceiling height, and aisle width.

While most of those standards have long since changed, the yellow color stuck.

Afterwards, Dr. Cyr became known as the Father of the Yellow School Bus.

Have a great day.
