Dearest friends
Today we will talk about hotness…not of the climate but
about the chilli pepper.
Naga Jolokia also known as the "ghost chili" or
"poison chili," was once the hottest chili pepper in the world, as
certified by Guinness World Records in 2007.
Originally grown in northeastern India and Bangladesh, the
naga jolokia has measured over 1,000,000 on the Scoville scale, a system
developed to measure the "hotness" or piquancy of chili peppers.
In comparison, jalapeño peppers range from 2,500 to 8,000.
Naga jolokia, believed to be named after the ferocious Naga
warriors inhabiting the plains & hills of Nagaland.
In 2007, Guinness World Records certified that the Ghost
Pepper (Bhut Jolokia) was the world's hottest chili pepper, 400 times hotter
than Tabasco sauce; however, as of 2012 it was superseded by the Trinidad
Moruga Scorpion.
Irrespective of its hotness, chili remains one of the best
sources of Vitamin C.
Have a great day.
